Edmed Secures Wallabies Playmaker Spot Against the English as Carter Gordon's Comeback Put on Hold

Tane Edmed will once again steer the Wallabies in the playmaker role when they face England, while Gordon's eagerly awaited return to international rugby union has been postponed.

The eight-Test fly-half, who previously represented Australia at the last Rugby World Cup prior to shock switch to rugby league to sign with the Titans, has now been released from his NRL deal to link up with the Australian on tour.

However, Gordon is believed to be still struggle with a quad strain sustained in training last week and will not feature from the squad aiming to achieve back-to-back victories over the English at Twickenham Stadium for the first occasion in over a decade and a half.

Australia Confront Player Availability Issues

The Australian side is lacking depth, hampered by the inability to select key foreign-based players including the English-based Player of the Year Ikitau, Tom Hooper, and James O'Connor, whereas the home team are at full strength.

That has sparked concern that the Wallabies's effort to move up the global rankings before the upcoming pool draw for the home 2027 Rugby World Cup has been unfairly impacted, since the English can field each of their domestic league squad members.

Coach Schmidt Stays Confident

However, Australia coach Schmidt, fresh from overseeing a gritty win against Japan with a mostly second-string squad, is still confident he has a winning team available, with several star players back to the lineup.

"We have tried to balance this year's tough fixture list in terms of Test matches and travel commitments, so it was great to rest a few squad members up last week and we hope that enables the group to be really strong on Saturday," stated Schmidt.
