Iran is prepared to restart atomic negotiations with the United States as long as it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has announced.

The Iranian diplomat stated solely negotiations worked, and shared recent overtures had been made by go-betweens to restart talks with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Walking a Difficult Route

The foreign minister is walking a complex path since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be operating from a situation of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had arisen more resilient militarily and mentally from the joint assault on its atomic facilities in June.

He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to process nuclear material within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the main reason of the impasse in the prior discussions.

Earlier Talks Unexpectedly Terminated

The previous five rounds of discussions between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious end on 12 June when Israel, with Washington's assistance, attacked Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that ended with the American leader declaring the sites had been destroyed. Following this, EU nations used their authority to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Perfect Agreement Offered

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could process nuclear material. Each party would have been able to assert triumph since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be certain that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been settled in the talks that American atomic experts could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a reasonable assumption of the cooperative offer. Officials asserted three times they had achieved a deal with Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff only for the arrangement to disintegrate due to "detractors in America".

Present Position

Iranian officials stated the partnership proposal was now withdrawn, but it seems quite possible the proposal could be reintroduced in some form if talks restart.

Trump last week claimed he had been receiving messages that Iran desired to resume discussions, but confidentially Tehran representatives state they are not yet receiving consistent overtures from Washington either straightforwardly or from key regional mediators, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Tehran's diplomatic corps has been charged of inactivity in the face of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Tehran states dialogue is not part of a performance.

Diplomatic Stance

In his speech to the conference, intended to portray the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the idea of global regulations, Araghchi declared the 12-day war demonstrated the clash could not be ended by military means. He asserted the assaults commenced with a American requirement for an total Iran submission and ended with an unconditional call for a halt to hostilities.

In what is portrayed by Iranian officials as the struggle of restoration and reconstruction, Araghchi stated he was confident Iran's security strengths "are considerably enhanced than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been rebuilt. We gained many lessons from this engagement; we have identified our own weaknesses and the vulnerabilities of the adversary."

He added: "We managed to survive this war. Our enrichment knowledge, which they intended to eliminate, remains in place. The installations and machinery, if damaged, will be restored; what is important is the determination of the Iranian people and then the unity of the country that they sought to undermine, but did not succeed to break. The nation of Iran have grown more powerful, more integrated, and more backing of the leadership and the state in the face of this assault."
