PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
