A 60-day cruise circling Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a break. The vessel departed without her and went back after some time after the crew discovered the woman was missing.

A major hunt discovered her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that guests and crew on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an latest communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would attend the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.
